"Long after they have forgotten what you taught them, they will remember how you treated them".
Who I Am In Life
My name is Katrice Wilson. I started school when I was 3 years old. I attended pre-school in Saginaw, Michigan (where I am from), where I received an award for good attendance. Then I attended Burton Elementary/Middle through 7th grade where I won awards for perfect attendance, academic achievements, athletic achievements, and class participation. I attended my last year of middle school at Bunker in Muskegon, Michigan where I was on the honor role every marking period and I received the GVSU Wade H. McCree tuition scholarship. I completed my four years of high school at Muskegon High School where I was on the honor all four years, actively volunteered in the community, was a part of numerous sports and clubs, was a member of the National Honors Society, and graduated in the top of my class. I am now a Senior at Grand Valley State University where I am majoring in Mathematics with an emphasis in Elementary Education. As a student at Grand Valley I have become an active volunteer in the Grand rapids Public Schools working with students grades 1-12 at Sibley Elementary, Westwood Middle, and Union High. I am also a certified Americorps College Positive Volunteer, and a very active volunteer and mentor with the GVSU Gear Up Program.
What Life Means to Me
Life to me means enjoying the people we have in our life and using every opportunity we have to learn something, whether it be about ourselves, someone else, a new topic, etc. When I find myself in a new class I find learning new things to be motivational, specially when it is things that I can I incorporate into my everyday life.
What Is My Outlook on the Future
The year 2020 will make 7 years since I graduated from college. I think I will probably still be living here in Michigan. I will be quite comfortable with where I am in life, but I will be even more comfortable with my career as a elementary school teacher. I think I will have accomplished getting my masters and maybe even a Ph.D and I will continue being an active force in the schools!
Creating An Engaging Classroom
As a teacher I will create an engaging classroom by teaching to every learning style, having a variety of teaching methods, and by making topics relatable to students (when acceptable). I will also make it a point to incorporate lessons that promote group work and effective communication skills. It is extremely important to me that my students build healthy communication skills and that they engage in healthy conversations with one another and others outside of the classroom and that they work together.
